Your correct that is a private IP.
It seems as if your not at the same location? If that is correct
Have her go to
http://www.whatismyip.com
It will tell her what your public IP is.
Also, you will have to have her router, forward ports 5800 and or 5900
to her PC.
Port 5800 is to connect to her machine via the VNC client software, 5900
is via a web browser. I prefer the client.
Also, make sure he PC firewall allows those connections, if she is using
a PC firewall.
After that all that you should be able to connect. Make sure you
configure a connection password as well.
Enjoy

Subject: How to set up VNC?
Hello
My mum has just got a new computer and I am trying to teach her how to
use
it, so thought I would get VNC running so I can see her desktop and show
her
exactly what to do.
We have both installed the free edition of VNC.
But I can't connect to her computer as a client
Her IP is showing as 192.168.1.2 - which I think is a private IP
address?
Is this coming from her ADSL modem? How do I find her actual IP address
so
I can connect to her PC?
Thanks
Danielle
