Unable to connect locally to hostname

Hi,

We have VNC on a local Windows network - we can connect fine when using the
IP address (192.168.0.9, etc) but only intermittanely when using the
hostname (davescomputer, etc)

Any ideas what we could be doing wrong? It used to work all the time but not
on our new PCs.
