password erases when logging in remotely

Hi,
  I sometimes encounter the following strange and very 
annoying behaviour of VNC personal edition running on a 
Windows XP PC: 

When trying to enter the password from a remote PC it is 
constantly erased during typing so that I never can finish with 
it. Furthermore, I have the impression (a "pulsating" cursor) 
that the screen (and the login window) is refreshed every few 
seconds. 

The only way of getting rid of this problem is to ask somebody 
to locally reset the PC or to locally login and logout. After that I can
normally login from a remote site.
