VNC for Linux on ARM 9

I am trying to set up and compile VNC client on a FC6 system with target Linux
on an ARM 9 based system.
I have installed gnuarm-4.0.2 crosscompiler.
When running configure --target=arm --prefix=/arm/common
--exec-prefix=/arm/bin
This is the not so encouraging result
creating cache ./config.cache
checking for gcc... gcc
checking whether the C compiler (gcc  ) works... no
configure: error: installation or configuration problem: C compiler cannot
create executables.

Can anyone please help me sort out my mistake or even provide configured
makefiles
