Menus disappear too fast

When using VNC Viewer on an XP machine to connect to a VNC server on a Windows
2000 machine, I get funny behavior when I try to access a menu on certain
applications.  For example, in Outlook whe I click the File menu, the menu
itself pops up briefly, but then disappears before I can select what option I
want.  Similarly, when my 2000 machine is locked and I send a ctrl-alt-del
from the viewer menu, the locked dialog switches to the dialog that asks for
my username and password, but then almost immediately goes back to the locked
dialog before I have a chance to put in my username and password.

How might I get around this problem?
