Changing Delete key to forward-delete under Emacs

In a VNC session, my Delete key works fine as forward-delete in xterm,
but under Emacs it does a Backspace.  How can I modify my keymapping in
~/.xmodmap or elsewhere in Linux to get the forward-delete behavior in
Emacs?
