Ok, I disabled the "Key presses repeat when key is held down" button in
the gnome->Preferences->Keyboard window. We'll see if this does the
trick. I'm actually in the office today, so I'll have to wait until I'm
remote to see if it works.

Of course, the instructions don't apply to a gnome desktop, so now I
have to figure out how to map the fix to a gnome desktop environment.
